A High Wycombe Judo student has been ranked as the 62nd best in the world after he picked up a bronze medal at the recent Gyor Cadet European Cup in Hungary.

Jesse Chraniuk, who is coached by his mother, Sam, competed in the competition in November in the 55kg category, and after being participants from Denmark and Lithuania in the early stages, he was unable to prevail past his Slovakian counterpart, he dropped into the repechage.

Undeterred and reinvigorated, Chraniuk battled his way through to the final block beating judoka from Romania and Ukraine.

He then took on his next opponent from Sweden, where he managed to earn a place on the podium with a bronze medal.

The result is currently Chraniuk’s career best.

As a self-funded athlete and member of the England Talent Development Squad, the youngster is currently looking for sponsorship opportunities.
