A zebra crossing looks set to be installed at Amersham station over the Easter holiday after approval was given by council bosses.

Concerns over pedestrian and passenger safety for people crossing Station Approach had been raised by Transport for Buckinghamshire.

A consultation of residents was carried out, and although it only attracted five responses they were all in favour of a crossing being installed.

A report from Buckinghamshire County Council said: "There is a need to improve multi-modal connectivity in Amersham. Currently when exiting the rail station it is not clear how to continue the journey on foot, bike, or bus.

"The Sustainability Team is working closely with Transport for Buckinghamshire to try and ensure that the scheme is delivered over the school Easter holidays in order to minimise disruption, particularly to those accessing the rail station."

The existing traffic island in the middle of Station Approach would be removed and a dropped kerb created for the new crossing.

Money for the project will come from a grant from the Department for Transport.
