Detectives arrested a man from Slough yesterday evening as investigations continued after two thieves threatened petrol station staff with a hammer in an early morning robbery.

The 37-year-old has since been released on conditional bail pending further investigations into the robbery at the Esso station on the A40 in Holtspur, at about 3.29am yesterday.

The attackers fled with cash and cigarettes in a van after threatening staff with the weapon, but nobody was injured in the frightening ordeal.

Police then found the burned out van in Holtspur cemetery.

The two men are both described as between 5ft 10ins and 6ft tall, and of athletic build. CCTV footage is currently being reviewed.

If you have any information on the incident, call investigating officer Detective Sergeant Tracey Benham on 101.
