Plans to run direct train services into Watford from Amersham and Chesham took a step closer to becoming a reality after a £284.4million rail project was signed off by the government today.
The Croxley Rail Link - which extends the Metropolitan Line to Watford Junction station and creates two new stations - has today been formally approved.
Calls have been made for further upgrades of the line to be made as part of the project - including enabling direct services into Watford from Bucks.
At the moment passengers have to change for the Watford spur line at Moor Park, but it is hoped improvements at the station will eliminate this.
Hertfordshire County Council has said "minimal work" would need to be done to enable a direct service from Amersham and Chesham, while South West Hertfordshire MP David Gauke has said London Underground would keep the proposals "very closely under review" should the Croxley Link be given approval.
How the London Underground map will look after the work is completed
