Residents have described their shock after a man was killed in a car crash on bank holiday Monday.

Police have confirmed that one man, named locally as Jonathan Lane, passed away after a car collided into two parked vehicles in Plomer Green Lane, Downley, at about 2.20am yesterday.

Two other men also had to be taken to hospital following the collision.

Carole Buckle, of Old Farm Road, said: “I have been up here for 46 years and many years ago I remember there was someone killed in an accident.

“It’s very sad for all involved. Any death is tragic and a waste of a young life too. My thoughts go out to all of those involved.”

Another resident who has lived in the area for seven years and wished to remain anonymous said: “In the time I’ve lived here, I can only think of one other accident.

“People have been saying this one was a really bad one, but we didn’t see anything.

“It’s horrible to think about something like this happening near to where you live - it’s enough to give you nightmares really.”

And, Borislava Stoyanova, of Old Farm Road, said: “I was breastfeeding my baby at the time and my room was full of blue from the number of police cars and ambulances on the main road.

“There were quite a few cars out there and I didn’t really know what was going on at the time – it’s very sad.”

The collision happened opposite a village Morrisons Local Store, formerly the Downley Donkey, and friends and family have paid tribute to Jonathan by leaving flowers and messages at the scene.
