A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer after a chisel assault in High Wycombe this morning.

Thames Valley Police said they removed a 46-year-old man from a building in Olympic Way, near Cock Lane, at about 12:42am and took him to hospital for his own welfare after reports of a disturbance involving two people.

He was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and assault and remains in police custody.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer. The officer sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

A 46-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

According to police, the incident led to damage being caused to neighbouring flats.

Acting Det Insp Sally Spencer, the investigating officer in this case, said: “We would like to reassure the community that we are investigating this incident, and officers remain in the area dealing with the investigation and also engaging with the public.

“This was a difficult situation for our police officers, one of whom suffered minor injuries that did not require him to go to hospital for treatment.

“As a result of the incident, damage has been caused to some of the flats which has affected other residents in the block and we are working with the housing association to limit the impact upon them.

“If anyone heard or saw anything in relation to this incident, I would like to speak to them and urge them to speak to a police officer at the scene or alternatively call the police non-emergency number 101 quoting URN 96 04/07/15.

“Alternatively people can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and pass information anonymously.”
