Hazlemere Fete will be opened by national treasure Mary Berry today, in what organisers say is the 'biggest and best' event yet.

The fete will be held in the grounds of Sir William Ramsay School in Rose Avenue on Bank Holiday Monday and will feature a host of new activities and events.

This year, visitors can see and walk alpacas,  view a range of classic cars and military vehicles, enter their pets into a dog show and dog agility display and enjoy fairground rides, bouncy castles and electric go-karts.

Bob Digby, fete publicity manager, said it was an honour to the Queen of baking, Mary Berry, open the event.

He said: "Mary will cut the ribbon and officially declare the fete open. It is the first time we have had her attend the event and it is a great honour.

"We have had various people open the event for us in the past, but Mary has a very high profile with the Bake Off at the moment and she is as popular as ever."

There will also be a a World War Two exhibition and when the gates open at 12pm, there will be a commemorative ceremony to remember the end of the war.

There will also be an impressive RAF BBMF C47 Dakota flypast, subject to weather conditions.

Mr Digby said: "I am glad the weather forecast is looking good, so it will be a pretty spectacular display. We are very honoured to have the RAF do this for us. It is a very unusual aircraft to see."

The fete is the 155th annual event and Mr Digby believes this year's celebration is set to be the best one yet.

He said: "We have lots of fantastic new events this year. This fete has been continuous for 155 years and we learn from it every year and try to make it as good as possible.

"This year, we are in an ideal location. I think it is going to be the biggest and best event yet."

The fete, which runs from 12pm to 5pm, is free to enter and has free parking.
