Pupils at a south Bucks university have been doing their bit for charity by coming up with creative fundraising campaign ideas for the British Heart Foundation.

First-year students from the School of Arts & Creative Industries at Bucks New University in Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe, have been working with the charity and its partner, a brand consultancy, to devise month-long campaigns to raise funds.

They include a jazz festival to coincide with Jazz Appreciation Month, using music to educate people about heart attack care and a school workshop to educate school children on the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Abbie Vickress, lecturer in graphic design, said: “I am really pleased that the students rose to the challenge and presented their work in such a professional way.

"They have learnt a lot around audience engagement, what a campaign is and could be, literal and lateral design solutions and pitching live projects to live clients.”

Aleksandra Wolejko, Jessica Lines, Jack Rees, Cheyenne Martinez, Georgie Lucas, Gemma Yeomans, Krystian Zun and Lara Henderson worked in groups to present their campaigns to Libby Page, brand executive at the British Heart Foundation, and Marc Spicer, senior designer at brand consultancy The Partners.

Mr Spicer said: “It was great to see the variety of ideas presented, as well as seeing the students work their ideas into well-rounded campaigns with lots of applications and touchpoints.

“It wasn’t an easy brief so it was great to see that they had got to grips with the British Heart Foundation’s objectives, and most importantly had fun coming up with creative and unexpected ways of engaging their audience.”
