A nationally acclaimed poet opened a new library at a High Wycombe girls' school this week.

Jacob Sam-La Rose, of Breaking Silence fame, opened the library at Pipers Corner School in Pipers Lane yesterday (Monday), where he spoke about his “fond” memories of going into libraries when he was younger and how he feels libraries are “spaces where imagination can run free”.

After the opening, he gave a short speech saying how he felt libraries were “instrumental” to his career and becoming the poet he is today, and delivered workshops to Year nine and 10 pupils to help them become “inspired”.

Headteacher Mrs Ness-Gifford said: “It was a huge pleasure welcoming Jacob to open our library today.

“He has inspired so many of our girls with his writing that is seems fitting for him to be here and share this experience with us.

“It is our belief that our new library will evolve year on year, and I hope that the girls will define the space and make it their own for years to come.

“It truly is a place where all girls can learn, explore and discover.”

Jacob’s writing explores Black-British cultural identity and aspects of popular culture. His works have been featured in literary magazines and on TV programmes all over the world.
