A competition has been launched encouraging school pupils across south Bucks to design road safety banners as part of road safety week this Autumn.

Primary school children will be designing a road safety message of their choice on the theme of Road Safety Week – Make the Brake Pledge – which runs from November 21.

The ‘brake pledge’ focuses on six elements: slow, sober, secure, silent, sharp and sustainable.

As well as their own award, the winner will be awarded with a large printed banner with their design to be displayed outside their school and a high visibility bag for each of their peers.

The competition is a result of a collaboration between road safety charity Brake and school uniform specialist Express South Bucks which has taken place for the past eight years.

Abi Smith, corporate fundraiser at Brake said: “We welcome the opportunity to partner with Recognition Express, helping to educate children on road safety awareness and giving them a voice to campaign for their communities to become safer.

“Road Safety Week is our annual event getting people, communities, businesses and groups to shout out about road safety and get involved! The design a banner competition is a fun and engaging way for schools and children to take part and has become an integral part to our week long campaign.

“Brake greatly values the work that Recognition Express does to engage with children during Road Safety Week, helping to create safer communities.”
