A pub has been voted 'Best in Marlow' despite only opening three years ago.

The Duke, in Queens Road, Marlow, was voted the area's 'Best Pub' by residents at Marlow FM's Hidden Gem Awards on Saturday night.

The awards celebrated the best local businesses and individuals, as voted by Marlow residents.

Pub owner, Steve Blake, said the award was an honour, especially in its recognition of The Duke's contributions to the community.

He said the pub's success was due to 'the combination of a great bar, amazing Chinese food, the best live music venue, the best cocktails and a brilliant team'.

The Duke owes its popular Wo Mei menu to Marlow chef Ling Poon, who previously worked at The Coach and Horses.

Steve added: "But it really is about creating the best atmosphere possible in a real-world local pub.

"This award is also based on our work for the community and charities, and our employment of a local team."

He said The Duke was planning a celebration to thank Marlow residents for their support with a night of West Coast Surf music and free punch on Friday, March 3.

The Duke originally planned to open in Queens Road in March 2020, but due to Covid-19, it began serving the community in July of that year.

Over the past three years, the pub has become a thriving promoter of local musical talent, hosting an annual Student Battle of the Bands and monthly party nights.

The Duke also works alongside Music Support, a charity supporting those in the music, festival and touring industries who suffer with mental health issues.

To date, the pub has raised over £5,000 in aid of Music Support with the help of regular customers.

Steve said: "It's a privilege and a pleasure to be named number one out of 22 pubs in Marlow.

"I thank my brilliant team, Ling, and overall the people of Marlow who have given us their love and support, and their votes, of course."
