A homecare company based in High Wycombe is celebrating its new 'good' rating from the Care Quality Commission, three years after opening its doors.

Walfinch homecare, a family-run business, was assessed on its level of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led service.

The watchdog found the company to be 'good' across all five areas.

The CQC spoke with care staff and those receiving care, as well as their relatives while carrying out the industry-standard inspection.

Managing director, Greg Renk, and registered manager, Gina McHugh, were also interviewed by the regulatory body.

Walfinch was founded in 2020 and currently employs 26 carers who offer a wide range of services to people in their homes across the Buckinghamshire area.

Based in Cliveden Office Village, High Wycombe, Walfinch's services extend to Amersham, Beaconsfield, Chesham, Gerrards Cross, Marlow, Aylesbury and more.

The inspection of the company was the first carried out by the Care Quality Commission and found the homecare company had provided a good level of safeguarding throughout its first three years of operation.

One resident interviewed for the report said: "The carers are really kind and compassionate."

A relative added: "Mum feels safe in their care, They try very hard to complete all the tasks and I would say they achieve that 99% of the time. They always ask if there is anything else we want."

Another resident said: "I always contact (the registered manager) if I have any queries and she is very responsive and all my queries are answered to my satisfaction. Communication is also very good regarding the office."

The CQC also found recipients of the company's care were free from 'unwarranted restrictions' and suitable risk assessments were in place.

Among the few areas flagged up in the report were a need for improvement in verifying employment references and more diligent training in hand hygiene.

Overall, the inspecting body found the care service met people's needs, treated them with compassion and respect and promoted an open, fair culture.

Speaking about the new rating, Greg said: "I have worked hard to create somewhere that not only provides very high-quality care to people in our communities but is a rewarding and enjoyable place to work for our carers.

"Every day we strive to provide an outstanding service and I'm delighted that the CQC has recognised these efforts."
