Bucks townspeople were left 'disappointed' after vandals destroyed blossoming cherry trees last weekend.

A resident shared images of the vandalised trees on Lock Road, Marlow, to the Facebook group Marlow Life on Sunday, April 16.

Releaf Marlow, a subset of the environmental charity Transition Town Marlow, attended the scene of the vandalism and said they were treating the damaged trees as best they could.

Group member Nick Rowcliffe said: "It’s really frustrating to see street trees being damaged. But Releaf Marlow is happy to provide emergency response when the worst happens, coordinating with councils.

"We will try to nurse the badly damaged trees back to life and to get new ones in place immediately rather than leaving unsightly stumps for a year or more.”

Hilary Martin, Marlow Town Council clerk, said the council were disappointed by the act of vandalism.

"Those trees were planted using Councillor Scott's ward budget, so it was very disappointing news to wake up to.

"We are very grateful to Releaf Marlow for providing immediate treatment."

Releaf Marlow is a project committed to increasing the number of trees in and around Marlow.

It is also a sister project to the Marlow Repair Cafe and the fortnightly Marlow Market. Click here to read more about their mission.
