A man has slammed his housing provider after rainwater has ‘repeatedly’ gushed through his ceiling.

The man, who asked not to be named, has been left “disgusted” by leaking water in his apartment block on Windrush Drive in High Wycombe.

The 40-year-old dad said the problems with water leaks after rain started last year, leading to reports by tenants to the housing provider Thrive Homes.

He said: “It’s disgusting we have to live like this. Children are running around and the smell is awful."

The carpet in the communal area was soaking wet, smelling “really bad from stale water and urine.”

In a video taken during heavy rain on July 26 by the man, water can be seen pouring down the walls, stairs and the bannisters and dripping onto the carpet.

Black stains left by earlier water leaks were visible across the ceiling and the paint on the walls was sagging from water.

Some of the tenants were now withholding rent until “this is sorted,” he said.

“The building is [in] unsafe conditions for us to live in,” he added.

Thrive Homes’ assistant director of property Robert Berry commented the situation: “We are aware of this weather related roof leak at Windrush Drive, High Wycombe which has been exacerbated by the recent downpour of rain.

“Our engineers have attended several times this week to make the area safe, and scaffolding has been installed in readiness for works to commence in the coming days. We are communicating directly with residents.”
