A bank holiday cricket match will support a good cause while honouring the community.

The Chesham Community Cricket Tournament will be held at the Chesham Cricket Club on Monday August 28 from 11am.

One of the organisers, Waj Fayyaz, who grew up playing cricket in Chesham, said the event is to remember everybody in Chesham who has passed away in the town.

He said: “We have been wanting to do this game for a while.

“We are trying to remember those who made it possible for us to have cricket in this town and we are trying to continue with that legacy.

“I can’t thank the Chesham Cricket Club enough for helping us.”

Proceeds from the event will go to Heritage House School, a special education school in Chesham.

With all the teams already filled, the organisers are now urging businesses to step up to support the cause.

“We are calling on all businesses to contact us in sponsoring our event and for all the communities to get together to enjoy watching a really fun day of cricket,” Waj added.

Alongside the game, there will be stalls selling food, cotton candy, cakes and sweets, henna and crafts. A local young girl will sell bracelets made by her.

The cricket game is organised by the Chesham Mosque Committee, councillors Muhammed Fayyaz and Mark Shaw with sponsoring from Oakleigh Garage Chesham and Kebab Box.

Because of a football game on the day, those driving to the event should not park at the football club but they should use public car parks like Watermeadow Car Park instead, which is free of charge.
