Both fans and critics of Patisserie Valerie have reacted to the its closure in a shopping centre.

The high street cake shop closed suddenly in the Eden Shopping Centre on Tuesday, January 8, with a note on the door saying it was now shut for good.

Patisserie Valerie said the High Wycombe and ten other shops were closed so that the brand can “continue to thrive both on the high street and online.”

“In order to ensure that this remains so to the future, we have made the decision to undertake this restructure now, to put the focus and resource of the business where we see the potential for continued, profitable growth,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

Bucks Free Press readers reacted with mixed feelings after the closure news.

Denise Farmer said: “I’ve been there for afternoon tea a couple of times and it wasn’t the best!”

Joanne Britnell Rodrigues said: “Sad. But it was very expensive.”

Kevin O’Neill commented: “Shame I liked it there.”

Tracy Gwilliam said: “Absolutely gutted, have some amazing memories there.”

Tonia Mott commented: "That's a shame. I was going to book another afternoon tea there."

Ricky Squire Pauffley wrote: “No surprise at all – the cost of EVERYTHING is absolutely ridiculous! Their overheads must be extortionate to justify it. Unless you’re after a takeaway or a haircut the town’s not worth visiting. Not to mention parking prices.”

Chelsea Smith said: “Thoughts go out to all the people who worked there.”
