A footpath closure for gas works has been branded as "insensitive" during the Holy Easter weekend.
The passageway next to All Saints Church in Marlow has been closed off by Cadent for gas works.
The works were approved by Buckinghamshire Council, as part of Cadent's Marlow Footpath 1b project, running from March 22 to April 15.
However, the works has been branded as insensitive for taking place during Holy week.
Resident Michael New said: "Holy Week - a really good time to dig up the cemetery paths.
"Well done Cadent.
"Digging a trench through a Christian graveyard in Holy Week is insensitive."
A Cadent spokesperson said: “We are carrying out work to replace old metal gas pipes with more durable, new plastic.
"This work is essential to ensure a safe and reliable gas network in the area for many years to come.
“We appreciate the inconvenience of the closure of the footpath will have especially over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
"All traffic management and path closures have been agreed with the local highways authority.
"We must explain that, the barriers are always put up to ensure the safety of the community and our engineers whilst the work is carried out.
“Whilst we try to carry out all our work at a time that is less disruptive, this is not always possible and many stakeholders and agencies are consulted to find the best time to carry out work whether planned or emergency.
