Trying Turkish food at Olive Tree Restaurant, High Wycombe

Just off the High Street in Wycombe town centre is where you'll find The Olive Tree Restaurant, a lively eatery with loud music and a bustling atmosphere.

We were off to a good start when we were shown to our seats and asked what drinks we would like to order, without hesitation.

The menu promised a huge selection of cocktails, wines, as well as dishes from Turkey and a surprising Balkan option like Russian Salad on their cold mezze.

Given my Eastern European roots, I was buzzing to try this starter which arrived like a pretty painting with each dip decorated with edible flowers.

Russian salad has always been served at our family barbecues but this version at The Olive Tree was incomparable (sorry mum!)

There was humous slap bang in the middle of the plate, surrounded by Saksuka with roasted aubergine, Olive Tree special, a creamy feta dip and Cacik which was a refreshing yogurt and cucumber based dip.

Just to add, we were served a deliciously doughy garlic bread before this arrived which we pretty much devoured, so save your bread if you're ordering the cold mezze starter.

As this was for a review, it was only right to ask our waiter what he would recommend us try.

To be honest, I was in shock when a huge sharing platter for two arrived with chicken shish, lamb shish, lamb ribs, chicken wings, Adana and Chicken Beyti on it.

It was served on a bed of tasty rice and a side salad of refreshing lettuce, tomato and pomegranate sprinkled like rubies ontop.

The couple sat next to us looked at my friend and I as if to say 'how on earth are they going to eat all of that' but alas, we gave it a good go.

Each mouthful was delicious and I really couldn't fault the taste of the meat. The chicken wings were soft, yet the skin had a nice crispy charred texture.

The flavour of the lamb was well seasoned and soft in texture with the rice complimenting each bite perfectly.

As we chomped away at our food, a live singer started to sing a rendition of Happy Birthday with the mood of the restaurant turning lively.

Conversations stopped as the music turned up (albeit slightly too loud) as waiters starting singing to the table. 

If you're celebrating a birthday then The Olive Tree will treat you like royalty that's for sure!

As the evening drew to a close, we were offered deserts and we couldn't resist trying Baklava when we saw it on the menu.

Four pieces arrived with a scoop of ice cream on a bed of what my friend comically described as 'tasty fibreglass'.

It was in fact candy floss but the British Turkish infusion of tastes worked surprisingly well.

Overall, The Olive Tree Restaurant is a restaurant I will definitely be recommending to anyone who is after a fantastic atmosphere with attentive staff and delicious food.
