The county Labour Party is committed to working in partnership with the many voluntary organisations, which do so much good in our community and ensuring those voluntary organisations are properly funded.

Labour councillors believe everyone is of equal worth and entitled to respect.

Our vision is of an equal, inclusive society where there is opportunity for every citizen and will work to ensure that the county council as a provider of education and social services achieves an environment where each person residing in Bucks are able to develop their full potential regardless of gender, race, age disability or religion.

Bucks Labour, through its elected councillors, will ensure that the citizens of Buckinghamshire reap the full benefit of national Labour Government initiatives on the National Minimum Wage, discrimination at work in respect of disability, gender and race.

Tories in Bucks have been obstructive and uncooperative in the implementation of Labour’s policies At this time of economic downturn the Labour councillors will work to ensure that the county council provides services to properly protect the young, the elderly and the deprived. To ensure mortgage support where necessary and assist small & medium businesses with their cash flows. Providing necessary debt counselling.

Labour councillors will actively demand that the millions of Government money currently provided for improvement or rebuilding of Bucks secondary schools are wisely spent.

We will campaign so that all children have access to a good school to ensure all young people are well educated and well skilled, so ensuring future community prosperity. The county Labour Party is committed to support Sure Start Centres and to ensure the good work these do by putting real resources into recruiting, training and retention of qualified youth and social workers, currently 50% of such posts being unfilled in some areas of Bucks.

Security in old age is a key Labour priority. Labour believes this means a fair and proper system of assessing need and will press for an urgent review of patterns of care and a radical overhaul of Bucks care services.

The Labour Government since 1997 has transformed the National Health Service by reducing dramatically waiting lists, vastly improved cancer and cardiac services, increasing the numbers of qualified doctor and nurses and providing numerous walk in treatment centres.

Labour councillors want the county council’s scrutiny role in these national health improvements to be properly carried out rather than the current out of touch approach and so ensure that the maximum benefits of these vast health improvements are enjoyed by Bucks residents.

The Conservative controlled county council has failed to use its existing powers to promote integrated public transport. Labour councillors will work for better use of these powers to make public transport easier and safer to use and encourage developments in safe cycling and walking routes in towns and villages.

Also to minimise use of private vehicles for transporting children to school.

Part of our programme will be to ensure county council activities have the least impact on the environment. We will also to address the disenchantment of young people with the relevance of civic affairs.
