Are you Brentford, are you Brentford, are you Brentford in disguise?

The answer to that terrace chant would be yes for Wanderers, who now count seven players among their ranks who have plied their trade for the Bees at some stage during their careers.

Sam Saunders and Nico Yennaris are the latest players to make their way to Adams Park from west London, and the duo have had no problem bedding into Gareth Ainsworth’s squad with the help of a few familiar faces.

Saunders said: “My manager at Brentford, Mark Warburton was very helpful he spoke to a few clubs, and then on Friday two or three of them came in and in the circumstances I decided to come to Wycombe.”

“I felt it was a team that was pushing for promotion, I know a lot of the lads and I know they’re a good bunch of honest lads who work really hard for each other.

“I spoke to Gareth and he said he was keen for me to come down.”

Both players were keen to start games after finding their chances limited at Griffin Park, with Saunders stating that he was desperate to get the “Three O’clock buzz again”.

The pair played the full 90 minutes against Stevenage on Saturday before they were again named in the starting XI on Tuesday night at Prenton Park as Blues battled their way to three points.

Despite having been at the club for only a week, it seems the new boys have already bought into the team ethic that Ainsworth has championed amongst his squad this campaign.

Yennaris said after Tuesday’s win at Tranmere: “It was a tough game, especially going down to ten-men as well. We did well in the conditions and we did really well in the end to hold on to the win.

“It shows the team’s character and how strong we are as a group. We stick together, stick by each other and dig in. That showed against Tranmere, especially when we went down to ten-men.”

Saunders was in his Brentford tracksuit and on his way up to Birmingham with Warburton’s first team squad when he hopped off the coach and signed for Wycombe on a one-month loan a week ago.

Both players are relishing being involved in a title challenge having featured in the Bees squad that achieved promotion to the Championship last term.

Current Blues Marcus Bean, Alfie Mawson, Aaron Pierre, Sam Wood and Paul Hayes have also represented the Londoners before, and skipper Hayes says the latest arrvals from west London have had no problems adapting to life in Buckinghamshire.

He said: “They’re good lads and they’ve settled in very well. We do love a Brentford reject here. We’ve got a good group.

“A lot of it comes from the staff they drum it in to us, how we all get along, how committed and together we are and that’s happened from the first day of pre-season. Any new lads that come in enjoy it, and the players that have left have found it hard to leave and go somewhere else.

“It’s a great bunch that we’ve got here and the two lads that have come in add not only quality but they’ve also added character to the team. They’re two good lads who are ready for the fight and who want to get a promotion.”
