Southend defender Adam Thompson has stoked the fire ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Wanderers by insisting that the Shrimpers are the better “team and club”.

Wycombe thrashed Phil Brown’s side 4-1 when they met at Adams Park back in December with goals from Paris Cowan-Hall, Joe Jacobson and a brace from Matt McClure.

The Shrimpers are sixth in League Two, five points behind Wanderers ahead of the game at Roots Hall.

Thompson told the club’s website: “Pride-wise we owe them one after that 4-1 defeat against them before. We usually do well against the big teams but we played badly and obviously we had Jerome sent off.

“They may think that they are better than us because of that result and where they are in the league, but I think we're better than them as a team and as a Club. Hopefully we can show that on Saturday.”

“Whatever team plays, the squad is together and tight. The Gaffer has drilled it into us. Going into the next ten games or so the squad is looking very strong and one of the strongest in the play-off places.

“It won't be an easy game against them. They are a good side and have done really well this season so far. We know what we need to do.”
