Wanderers fans are yet to see the best of Aaron Holloway, according to manager Gareth Ainsworth who believes there’s much more to come from the striker.

The forward’s talent was on display for all to see as the Sky cameras caught him lash a splendid half-volley past the despairing dive of Luke McCormick against Plymouth on Saturday.

It was his second in as many matches and fourth of the season, prompting praise from the man who bought the 22-year-old to the club after he left Newport County last summer.

“He’s a great player, he’s a work in progress and he’s still so young,” said Ainsworth.

“People look at him, see this giant guy and think ‘he must be mature, he must be an adult, he must know everything about the world’ he doesn’t.

“We’re giving him a life academy as well as a football academy and we’re doing our best with him. If he keeps putting in performances like that week in, week out then he’ll be a hell of an asset for Wycombe Wanderers.

“He’s got more to come definitely, but he’s showing glimpses of what he can do and, when he’s on form, Aaron Holloway is a big player in our league.”

Holloway has racked up 33 appearances for Blues this term, 21 of those have come from the bench although he has started five of the club’s last seven matches.

The striker has battled against injuries throughout the season and was taken off at Home Park after picking up a knock.

Before his withdrawal, Holloway partnered Paul Hayes and Steven Craig in attack and the latter believes he has the tools to be a regular in the starting XI.

“The big man just needs some belief,” said Craig.

“I know he’s had horrendous problems with injury. Like Lynchy he’s a smashing big lad and you can see just what he’s capable of.

“He just needs to get fit and stay clear of injuries. I thought he thoroughly deserved his man-of-the-match award (against Plymouth), it’s just a shame that he blew up with ten or 15 minutes to go. He’ll get stronger and he’s a massive asset for us.”
