CASH-STRAPPED Wanderers used up one of their ‘limited’ overnight hotel stops to rest-up after Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Morecambe rather than the night before.

The Blues made the unusual decision to travel up on the matchday and have their sleepover after the game rather than the night before after taking a scientific judgement.

Boss Gareth Ainsworth, who trained to become a physio during his younger days, made the decision after consulted with his medical staff and decided it was more important to get the players’ recovery right.

He said: “The way wWe play is with total energy and we thought this was the best way to aid their recovery.”

Ainsworth and his staff felt this would be a much better way of getting the lactic acid out of their legs and dealing with the micro tears rather than a five-hour coach journey deep into the night would have been.

They were also keen not to disrupt the players’ normal sleep pattern with Saturday’s match against Dagenham and Redbridge just around the corner.

The players then had a swimming pool session when they woke at their hotel the following morning before heading back down the M6 and M40 fully refreshed.
