THE man who fired Blues to the top of the League Two table says he’s confident he will be fit to try and keep them there when they return to action on Saturday.

Michael Harriman’s long-range belter ended midweek visitors Cambridge United’s resistance and took Blues a point clear at the summit.

But Harriman’s night finished early when he was withdrawn clutching his groin before the end of the 1-0 win.

Boss Gareth Ainsworth says he is now a big doubt for Saturday’s clash at home to Northampton Town, but the QPR loanee was more upbeat about his chances.

He said: “It was more of a precaution than anything to come off. Saturday is the most important thing now and I wanted to make sure I was right for Saturday.

“I will see how it settles down. I’m hoping to be there. I feel alright, I’ve had a bit of ice on it and feel ready to go and I want to take the confidence I have got now into Saturday.”

Harriman is fast becoming Blues’ go to man this season and his three goals this term have earned the club six points in their charge to the top rung, with his 25-yard volleyed winner on Tuesday the best of the lot.

He said: “It bounced up nicely and invited me to hit it and luckily it’s ended up in the back of the net. I’ve got a knack of scoring long range goals but there was something special about that one being on the volley. When I hit it I was thinking ‘will it, won’t it’ and it was a great feeling when it did. It’s always a great feeling to score the winner particularly when they come in that style.”

It catapulted Blues to the top and Harriman says the challenge is to stay out in front.

He said: “We’ve gone top of the league now and we’ve got to continue this great run we are on. We are not going to get carried away. We have got staff here who will keep us all level headed and we will take it each game at a time and see how long we can stay up there.

“We want to stay there and we’ve got a bunch of lads that really want to win and that is what’s getting us over the line most of the time. We’ve got that never say die attitude. We are grinding results out and long may it continue.

“With the momentum we are on the boys are flying with confidence, we are ticking the games off and we are winning those games and that’s what we’ve got to keep doing."
