CHESHAM United boss Andy Leese is hoping to have three new players on his roster ahead of Saturday’s home clash against Dorchester Town.

The manager’s patience finally snapped with his inconsistent squad after Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at Histon which was chalk and cheese after their magnificent FA Cup second qualifying round win at Paulton Rovers on Saturday.

He said after Tuesday’s reversal: “I’ve got to search for answers and fairly quickly. The only thing decent about the night was the post-match food.

“I have got to shake things up, my patience has worn out. The players have got to realise that they are at a club where finishing between 10th and 16th is not acceptable on my watch.”

Leese was robbed of five key men in midweek through injury and unavailability but what disappointed him most was that his squad players did not step up and were unable to carry out his instructions.

He said: “It’s shown me that are our squad from one to 16 is not good enough.

“We had players who have been on the bench coming into the side and you would think they would want to take their chance but it was like they had never met before.

“I am totally baffled by it. The performance was nothing short of dreadful.

“We were a goal down inside 90 seconds and you have to think that nobody is listening or understanding what is required at this level of football.

“Histon were short of four or five of their best players and yet I walked into a dressing room where I heard all the excuses when there were no excuses.”

He criticised the desire of some of his players and slammed them for not being able to take instructions on board as for the second Tuesday running they fell behind inside the opening minute-and-a-half of a game.

He said: “I was bang average as a player, but I made sure I was fit and I made sure I always had plenty of desire but I had to question that desire and understanding of the game from my players at Histon. I can’t rationalise it.”

Leese has replaced anger with action and at the time of going to press was hoping to introduce three new faces to his misfiring squad. He was not naming names as he didn’t want to scupper the deals but he did say Football League club loanees were among his targets.

The 3-1 defeat was in stark contrast to Saturday’s FA Cup win when the Jekyll and Hyde Generals showed their good side with a Ryan Blake double which then earned them a home tie against North Leigh in the third qualifying round of the competition.

Leese said: “Saturday was job well done. We did exactly what I was asking and put the ball in behind the centre halves and Ryan Blake was outstanding.”
