Michael Harriman says his wonder goal against Portsmouth owes as much to the Wanderers fans as his own ability.

The midfielder broke the deadlock after 28 minutes on Saturday after a poor clearance from Portsmouth keeper Brian Murphy had presented him with a chance from around 40 yards out.

With the keeper out of his goal Harriman turned after collecting Luke O’Nien’s miscued shot and swept home without even looking up. A decision he says was influenced by the roar of the crowd.

He said: “To be fair I didn’t know that the keeper was that far off his line and all I could hear was the crowd shouting at me to shoot.

“I was just trying to get half a yard and have a good swing at it and luckily the keeper couldn’t get back, I owe the crowd for letting me know that I should take the shot.”

The 23-year-old, who is on loan from QPR, has developed a reputation for the spectacular since arriving at Adams Park in the summer.

He scored a curling left-footed effort from the edge of the box against Hartlepool earlier in the season in a game in which he had initially broken the deadlock with a powerful low drive.

Yet, his most impressive effort came in the form of an outrages half volley with the outside of his foot from distance in the 1-0 win over Cambridge.

Harriman therefore feels the four goals he has scored this season represent a good return considering he views himself as a scorer of great goals rather than a great goal scorer.

He explained: “I don’t score many easy goals. Today’s is right up there and I cherish every goal I score because I am not really a goal scorer.

“I have been quite lucky this year to have got four so far, and I just try to enjoy the moment and hopefully I can get some more.”

The impact Harriman has had during his short time with the Chairboys has delighted manager Gareth Ainsworth especially considering his loan status.

He also provided the second goal on Saturday with an excellent cross and Ainsworth was full of praise for the impact of the creative wide man.

“I don’t know if it was a shot or a pass from Luke [O’Nien] but Michael’s first touch set it up and his finish shows he is a real special player,” Ainsworth said of Harriman’s goal.

“I thought he was outstanding today and his energy levels and commitment for somebody who is on loan is just ridiculous. He is a real asset to us and is showing that week in week out.”
