Beaconsfield High School has reason to celebrate after three of their netball teams qualified for the South of England National Netball Finals.

The school performed well across the board as their under-14 and under-16 teams both became regional champions, while the under-19’s just missed out in the final after conceding late in extra time.

With the top two schools from each age group making the South of England event the teams can now plan for the tournament which will be held at Roedean School in March.

The Under-14s started strongly with a 15-3 win over Grange School before fighting back to steal a 9-8 victory from the jaws of defeat against Brighton College.

Oxford High were next to fall to the imperious under-14 side as they strolled to a 10-6 win which they followed up with a 23-0 trouncing of Cowes.

After two more wins they took on Queen Anne’s School in what proved to be a tantalisingly close semi-final and eventually won 9-7 to reach the final.

St Helen’s and St Katherine’s awaited in the final and proved no match for Beaconsfield as they made it a clean sweep of wins for the tournament.

Meanwhile, the under-16s were in equally impressive form as they lost just one game on their way to winning their competition.

Having finished second in their group they faced a tougher route to the final, but played brilliantly to win 14-10 against Durrington in their semi-final. The final against Aylesbury High School was well contested but Beaconsfield eventually overcame their opponents by a score of 7-3.

After convincingly winning their group the under-19s looked well placed to replicate the achievements of Beaconsfield’s younger teams.

They then came through a scare in the semi-final as a nervy performance saw them start slowly but recover well to win 12-3.

The final was agonisingly close and at full-time Beaconsfield and Brighton College could not be separated.

With the scores tied at 10-10 the game entered into a period of extra time which consisted of two halves of two minutes.

Scores form either side made it 2-2 in the extra period before Brighton were awarded a penalty in the final seconds of the match and scored to snatch victory away from Beaconsfield.
