Chesham Cricket Club’s strong start to the season continued over the weekend as all three of their men’s teams picked up wins.

The First XI got the ball rolling on Saturday as they claimed their second successive win against a Home Counties League side with victory over Gerrards Cross.

With Gerrards Cross batting first, the Chesham attack set about dismantling their opponents and had at one point reduced them to 56-8.

It took some strong late hitting from number 10, Elliot Green, to help them to a meagre 101 from 39 overs as he scored a quick-fire 26.

The Chesham bowlers had shared the wickets evenly throughout the innings as Jack McIver (3-17), Jason Rance (3-22) and Pip Frances (2-23) all struck.

Despite the low target, Chesham would be made to work for their success as they secured the win with four wickets remaining.

Rance led from the front with a captains knock of 34 not out as he guided his side home in just 21 overs.

Chesham’s Seconds were in equally imperious mood as they eased home to a comfortable 92 run win over Cross’ Seconds at the Meadow.

After Brendan O’Donovan and Mo Asuaf had given the hosts a solid foundation, a superb 102 not out from Henry White formed the cornerstone of Chesham’s 216-6 from 40 overs.

The Cross response got off to a shaky start as Peter Clifford and Alex Watson claimed early wickets before Chris Royals picked up a five-for to help dismiss Cross for 124. Twenty-four hours later Chesham played host to Southampton University. Having batted first Chesham set their opponents a target of 213 to win.

Their runs largely came from the tail end as Matt Yeabsley (32), Tom Free (31) and Gift Kwatsha (30) led the way.

A spirited chase from Southampton fell just short as they were restricted to 195-9 from their 40 overs.

Yeabsley added to his decent effort with the bat with a superb bowling display as he took three wickets for just four runs, and Kwatsha finished with figures of 3-26.

The men were not alone in their match winning efforts as Chesham Women were successful in their opening game of the campaign with a 28 run win over Kempton.
