Two Maltmans Green School pupils enjoyed the trip of a lifetime as they travelled to the United States for a week of intensive Gymnastics training.

Tara Sadlier and Isabel Whitburn made the journey to the International Gymnastics Camp in Pennsylvania where they were treated to masterclasses from some of the world’s finest Gymnasts.

Three-time Olympic gold medallist Svetlana Boguinskaya, and Olympic champions Nastia Liukin and Oksana Chusovitina ran the sessions which lasted for six hours a day.

There can be no doubt that the under-11 squad members would have benefitted from Chusovitina’s expertise.

The 40-year-old won gold at Barcelona in 1992 and will be competing in her seventh Games when she takes part in Rio 2016 this summer.

The week saw the young gymnasts work hard on various skills and both Tara and Isabel were praised by the coaches for their efforts.

Tara’s work ethic was given particular attention as she was presented the most dedicated gymnast award at the end of the training camp.

Far from just being a training exercise the girls used the opportunity to take in some of the multitude of landmarks America has to offer during their stay, including a visit to the Statue of Liberty.
