It’s a rarity in cricket for all of your batsmen to deliver, but Beaconsfield’s top four did exactly that on Saturday as they beat Thatcham Town.

David Heavyside (74 not out), Jason Harrison (70), Nilesh Odedra (57 not out) and Adam Francis (43) all made telling contributions in the 117-run Thames Valley League Division 2B win.

Francis and Harrison opened the batting and made their intentions clear early on to set Beaconsfield on their way to an imposing score.

Their departures should have brought belief to the Town cause, but Odedra and Heavyside had different ideas and only tightened Beaconsfield’s grip on proceedings.

They could not be shifted and remained at the crease for the remainder of the visitor’s innings to guide them to 262-2 from their 52 overs. Their efforts with the bat made for a torrid time for Thatcham as only George Armstrong (1-25) and John Williams (1-45) claimed wickets.

Thatcham faced a thankless task in response and they never looked like chasing down the 263 runs required to claim victory.

Opener Josh O’Flynn departed for zero and he was among nine batsmen who failed to make it to 20 runs.

Mark Sullivan was their tormentor in chief and claimed a five-for to finish with figures of 5-30 from his 11 overs.

He was ably supported by Odedra who complimented his unbeaten innings with a return of 3-28 from only seven overs.

James Rendell and Sam Musk recorded identical figures to both finish with 1-37 from 11 and 10 overs respectively.

Beaconsfield remain in the relegation zone despite the dominant win and are three points behind closest rivals Burnham Seconds.

They face High Wycombe Seconds, who suffered a five-wicket defeat to Royal Ascot on Saturday, in their next match.
