A poor batting display left Bucks red raced as they suffered a 239-run defeat against an imperious Norfolk in the Unicorns County Championship Eastern Division.

Bucks are still chasing their first win of the season and collapsed twice to hand the home side the victory.

Norfolk opted to bat first having won the toss and wasted little time in taking the initiative with a fine first innings display.

Opener, James Spelman, led from the front with a score of 131 as Norfolk posted 336-7 from their 90 overs.

Skipper Michael Payne had the most joy in the field for the visitors to claim 4-66 and keep his side in contention heading into their first innings.

Their reply started excellently with openers Shaan Khan (70) and schoolboy Alex Woodland (30) putting on 113 for the first wicket.

That was as good as it got for Bucks, however, and a collapse saw them lurch to 168-7 before George Russell and Cameron Parsons dragged them to 221 all out.

A first innings lead of 115 gave Norfolk plenty of room for manoeuvre and raced to 225-9 before declaring with a lead of 340.

Bucks’ hopes of mounting a surprise run chase were stopped in their tracks by Chris Brown (7-45) and they were all out inside 40 overs for 101.

With the search for an elusive win still on, Bucks will turn their attentions to a match against Hertfordshire at Long Marston, which starts on Sunday, August 31.
