Success in sport often means juggling a number of commitments at once and High Wycombe will have to do just that this weekend.

The Home Counties Premier League Division One side continue their title defence against Banbury tomorrow before a crunch National Club Championship quarter-final against Swardeston CC on Sunday.

With Wycombe some 32 points off the pace in the league, they have no room to prioritise either competition and will therefore perform a delicate balancing act throughout the weekend.

Tomorrow’s match, which Wycombe head into on the back of a 76-run defeat to Finchampstead, carries great significance as Banbury are one place above them.

Banbury have lost just once in the league this season and Wycombe will be keen to close the gap to their closest league rivals.

A 37-run defeat the last time the two sides met will not imbue Wycombe with confidence, but they surely need to develop some consistency if they are to retain their crown.

Sunday’s match could provide them with a more realistic shot at silverware this season as they host East Anglian Premier League champions Swardeston.

They are run away leaders at the top of their division, and come into the match in excellent form after enjoying a crushing 145-run win over Vauxhall Mallards last time out.

Captain Nathan Hawkes described Ealing, who were Wycombe’s opponents in the last round, as one of the toughest teams Wycombe could have faced.

Having come through that match they will be keen to make the most of the opportunity they have given themselves in the competition.

The cup competitions have, so far, seen Wycombe play their most fluent cricket and this trend continued on Sunday as they beat Henley in the Home Counties T20 semi-final.

The match saw them secure a 27-run victory to book a place in the regional final.

Henley won the toss and elected to put their opponents into bat and looked to have made a wise decision when they reduced Wycombe to 45-4.

The early inroads saw Gavin Baker (4), Hawkes (0) and David Cranfield-Thompson (4) all depart cheaply while Garth Davson stuck around slightly longer to make 25.

The visitors were in need of a score and Xavier Owen delivered just that with a near run a ball 40 to steer his side away from danger.

Contributions of 35 from both George Russell and Alan Duncan added meat to the bones and Wycombe finished on 165-6.

The Henley response was not lacking fight with Michael Roberts (35) providing particularly stout resistance.

They found it tough to get going though as all of the Wycombe bowlers chimed in on their way to dismissing Henley for 138.

Duncan was the main threat with 3-23 while Cameron Parsons (2-24), Baker (1-7), Uzair Amjaid (1-22), Adam Dobb (1-27) and Davson (1-32) all struck in the win.
