Beechdean Aston Martin Racing will look to bridge the gap to European Le Mans Series (ELMS) GTE championship leaders JMW Motorsport this weekend.

Wycombe Wanderers chairman, Andrew Howard, Darren Turner and Alex MacDowall head into the fifth round of the championship at Spa Francorchamps sitting second.

All three drivers are hoping to wipe out JMW’s five point advantage and Howard is looking forward to racing on a track he is fond of. “Spa has always been one of my favourite tracks, it is a circuit that rewards the brave,” he said.

“This is the round I have been looking forward to the most and with the additional aero on the GTE it is going to be another great learning curve.

“ELMS is a very competitive championship so it will be a crucial round for the Beechdean AMR team.”

Beechdean have produced a consistent campaign so far in this year’s ELMS and have finished in the top five at all four races this season.

With the race for the GTE title so finely balanced, Turner insists Beechdean must maintain their high levels of performance during the penultimate race of the campaign.

He said: “I am looking forward to going back to SPA. We were there earlier this year with the World Endurance Championship and it’s a real favourite for me.

“It is such a challenging circuit. The championship is still very tight so we need to make the most of this weekend and claw back a good result against the JMW Ferrari.”

JMW have outscored Beechdean at all but one of this season’s races and the threat of AT Racing also looms large ahead of Spa.

They sit just three points behind Beechdean in the overall standings and are likely to push the team, which is owned by Howard, all the way.

A positive result in Spa should set up a thrilling conclusion to the season which takes place in Estoril, Portugal on Sunday, October 23.
