FIVE-GOAL Wycombe Wanderers produced their best performance of the season so far with a thumping 5-1 demolition of Crewe Alexandra at Adams Park tonight.

And it was the first time that Wycombe have scored five goals since Gareth Ainsworth has been in charge.

Goals from Sam Wood, Paris Cowan-Hall and a first ever senior goal for Dominic Gape in a thrilling first 45 minutes sent Ainsworth's team into a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.

And then two strikes from substitute Scott Kashket in the 63rd and 69th minute sealed the win, with Crewe grabbing a 71st minute consolation from Cooper.

For Kashket, who was making his home debut, they were his first goals for Wycombe since joining the club in August. The 20-year-old signed until December 31st after being released by Leyton Orient.

It was only Wycombe's third win of the season from 10 starts, but pushes them away from the bottom two trapdoor into 19th place, level on points with four other teams.

Wood opened the floodgates in the 19th minute, latching on to Paul Hayes' cut back with a low left foot shot into the corner of the net and an easy finish.

And Hayes was also the provider for Cowan-Hall six minutes from half-time crossing for the Wycombe player to head home, before Saints loanee Gape curled the ball home right-footed just before the break.

Crewe looked to fight back in the second half, with a spell of possession,

Cowan-Hall was substituted for Kashket in the 62nd minute, and the newcomer was on the scoresheet inside a minute when Kashket beat keeper Ben Garratt to the ball and finished into an open goal.

It got even better for Kashket who netted after 69 minutes from close range, and he could have easily had a hat-trick late in the game.

Cooper pulled a goal back two minutes later for Crewe from a corner, but by then the game was up, and for manager Ainsworth, this was the perfect fillip after Saturday's disappointing solitary goal defeat at Carlisle.

Ainsworth expressed his delight at the result after the game. He said: "It's been coming. With pace in the team and players coming back from injury, we dominated the game and we're really pleased."

After the game, Cowan-Hall Tweeted his delight at the result. "What a feeling! Great team performance thre points and happy to have scored, fans were ledge!! We go again Saturday."
