Wycombe Wanderers will look to build on their fine victory over Cambridge United as they travel to bottom of the league, Crewe Alexandra, on Saturday.

The Chairboys rallied on Tuesday night to earn their first win after a seven-game stretch that saw them winless and subsequently drop from first to eight.

Two goals from Anis Mehmeti and one from Garath McCleary, provided a mouth-watering ‘M&M’ performance.

However, Saturday’s opposition also ended a bad run of their own as they beat Cheltenham Town having previously lost their last seven.

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth was keen to affirm that victory was not assured at the Alexandra Stadium.

He said: “I expect a big challenge. They’ve won so their tails are going to be up.

“David Artell did fantastically well getting them up and without a shadow of a doubt they can still stay up.

“My new saying is that you’re only as good as your next game and that is against Crewe and we have to back up what we did on Tuesday.”

The Wycombe squad know all too well of the difficulty in facing the opposition as they relied on a last-minute winner from Ryan Tafazolli to take all three points back in October.

Previous encounters suggest that one side will be going home happier, as you have to go back to 1995 for the last time these two sides shared the points in a league match.

Wycombe have won the last three matches against Crewe, edging them with nine wins, three draws and eight defeats in 20 meetings.

If the Chairboys are going to be successful at the weekend, set-pieces could be the critical factor.

The Railwaymen have scored the fewest goals from set-pieces this season with just four, an area that Wycombe have been leaky in as of late.

Whilst on the opposite end, they have the 2nd worst set-play xG conceded (19.1) whereas the Blues rank 3rd in the league with xG scored (17.1).

That could spell the return of set-piece king Joe Jacobson but with the team back to winning ways, most Chairboys supporters would like to see the same line-up come Saturday.

A Wanderers win could see them jump into 5th. For that to happen, Sunderland would need to drop points away at Charlton whilst Sheffield Wednesday would need to lose at Lincoln.
