Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has reflected on his side’s 2-0 home victory against Northampton Town.

A second-half brace from Matt Butcher secured the Chairboys’ third straight league win for only the second time this season.

The result has lifted Wanderers to 12th, making it the first time they have entered the top half of the League One table in four months.

Here’s what he had to say on the win.

On the result

“I’m chuffed as the players are getting their awards for all the hard work they’ve put in this season.

“We’ve had a lot of changes but we’ve looked at the stats, the data, the back four, and we knew we weren’t far away from where we want to be.

“So to have the week we’ve had, we’re delighted.”

On the performance

“It was a stop-start first half as Northampton implemented their game plan very well, so the second half needed a bit of a spark where we needed to bring in some energy.

“Josh had a very high sprint distance at Reading last week and on Tuesday night, so that’s why he didn’t start today.

“But we have a great replacement in that with Matt Butcher.

“He has had a round of applause from the players and the lads want me to sign him up! He’s good for him, it was great play by Sadlier and a great finish by Matt.

“He’s been so good for us since he’s been here.

“When I got a whiff that he was available, I was double keen to get him over the line as he’s very mature and he’s always in the right place.

“And he had two top finishers today and he’s settled in really well.

“We’re a decent team and we should have picked up more points than what we’ve done so far.

On the 13 day break

“The boys are jaded.

“The energy levels show that we’ve had midweek games for pretty much the whole year so far and we’re now in mid-March.

“If it was my choice, I would have wanted the game to have been played as I had looked forward to facing Cambridge, but we’ll be getting some good work in during that time.”

Up next for Wycombe is Portsmouth on Good Friday.
